Baroque Lady for Valentine’s Day

20160207-2327150497 20160207-2329550508Desiree Nicole Hays, the consummate professional, as usual came all prepared in period costume and with a playful attitude which made the shoot run very smoothly. She can be contacted at http://www.nicolehays.com/

Ambient light by late evening was dappled and so was used as a backlight and was then supplemented by Mitros Flash in a SaberStrip, which was fortuitous as these stand up well in windy conditions.

“Post” Work

After the shoot is done, next comes the downloading, the weeding out of the  weaker images, the selection of the stronger images, the post processing of the best images and then the final selection of the top few images from the shoot, which may be just a single image or maybe a series of images each with a different feel. At TJ Drysdale’s Workshop shoot last week, our model Victoria was very versatile so we got a number of different looks in different clothes, in different lighting situations so we had lots of artistic choices to make. It usually takes me at least a week after the shoot, to give my brain time to settle and reevaluate each decent image a few times before the final selection. Enjoy…..20160124-2129529129 20160124-2130049134 20160124-2131479162 20160124-2209589376 20160124-2213409418 20160124-2216559463 20160124-2218109491 20160124-2218349494 20160124-2219109516 20160124-2220409548 20160124-2221009558 20160124-2235439751 20160124-2300509876 20160124-2308219950

Cast a cold Eye on Life, on Death.

Cast a Cold eye on Life, on DeathGreat experience with TJ Drysdale and Victoria Yore, Sunday at a Photo workshop. being inspired by seeing the shape of her dress folds, I took this image into oneOne Photo10 ( my favorite compositing software) and superimposed a skull on her dress.
I am happy with the result and the contrast between the Lively dancing young woman, and the death’s head, the living plants and dead leaves, and the Bright sunlight shining through the trees in a dappled pattern, and the dark shadows in the old stone crypt behind.

Nora on the Liberty Ship

Nora on the Liberty Ship

I captured this portrait of my friend, model and fellow healthcare professional, at a recent shoot in downtown Tampa on the “American Victory” Liberty ship. She is always fun to shoot and can pull all kind of looks and styles.

It contains links to a trove of the greatest Photographers that are shown in galleries, both old masters to contemporary fine art.

Erin With Her Pearl Earring

Erin with her Pearl Earring. Erin is an enthusiastic, professional and fun model I have had the pleasure of shooting with for the third time. I thought we could try and recreate a classic painting I had seen in SanFrancisco last year. So first, homage is due to both Vermeer and Bill Gekas for inspiration, and to Erin Andie for Makeup, styling and for all the props brought at short notice. Shot at home in 20 minutes. AlienB 800 with beauty dish camera left.  Photix Odin Trigger, Nikon D600, 1/200 f4.5 iso100, Tamron 90mm prime. Processing Lightroom, onOne Photo10. Amazing what processing can be done with a great patient and cooperative model and Lightroom alone. Enjoy.
